PETALS FOR
GOODNESS SAKE
“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful;
they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.”
-Luther Burbank
WHO ARE WE?
We are an all volunteer, nonprofit, green organization with the sole mission of spreading joy, beauty and hope to the elderly and critically ill through repurposing donated flowers. We partner with newlyweds executing their first charitable act as a couple, bar and bat mitzvahs, special events, memorial service provider’s, floral vendors and outright donors. Volunteers pick up flowers which would otherwise be discarded. These flowers are then repurposed by volunteers who find usefulness and camaraderie in doing caring work for others. The volunteers redesign the larger compositions into individual floral arrangements and distribute them to nursing homes, hospice units, & senior living centers.

WHY SHARE FLOWERS?
These flowers become symbols of joy and caring to a community that is often overlooked. Dr. Joyce Varner, a professor at the University of South Alabama, estimates that about 60% of nursing home residents do not have regular visitors. Many nursing home residents are “elder orphans.” Rutgers and Harvard University studies have shown that flowers ease depression, inspire social interaction, and both refresh and enrich recent memory.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We are always in need of flowers to repurpose, containers for individual arrangements (small vases, mason jars, teacups, mugs, etc.), volunteers, floral supplies such as ribbons, etc. and donations to cover costs. If you would like to help with one or more of the latter, visit our volunteer or support page above.
